Managing absence and attendance
Explaining acceptable levels of absence and challenging poor behaviour is the first step to managing absence and attendance. Your business has to accept people can be absent from work - but absences must be reasonable. It is often a fine line in determining whether an absence is reasonable or unreasonable.

Agency Workers Regulations 2010
The Agency Workers Regulations 2010 (AWR) are now here and in full force. A few basic points that you need to be aware of are:

  • Make sure that from their very first day that agency workers have access to the same facilities as a permanent employee
  • The terms and conditions of agency workers employment needs to be identical with permanent staff (with some exceptions)
  • Agency workers must be made aware of all job vacancies – irrespective of whether they are eligible to apply
  • After 12 weeks in the post, agency workers are entitled to equivalent pay to permanent employees
